A mutation is a change in the nitrogenous bases of DNA during protein synthesis. This change can lead to a different protein being formed which could cause the original trait to not be expressed.
- Frameshift mutations are when the entire remainder is changed because of one mutation.
- Deletion is the removal of one or more bases.
- Insertion is the addition of one or more bases.
- Point or silent mutations are when the mutation changes one amino acid or it does not show up at all.
- Substitution is the change in one single base for another.
